IU Press offers an increasing number of e-books. To see a complete list of available titles, visit our e-books page. When viewing the information page for a particular title on the IU Press website, the format information will specify whether the book is available as EPUB, PDF, or both.
E-books are delivered as a download in a web browser, such as Internet Explorer, Safari, or Mozilla Firefox. Once the file is downloaded, it can be read on the computer or transferred to a reading device
Before purchasing your e-book, you need to have an e-book reader software application installed on your computer. Please review the Adobe Digital Editions Compatibility Chart to find out which e-book reader software is compatible with your computer or other reading device.
What specific readers are known to be compatible with e-books purchased on the IU Press website?
The following is a list of some devices that can be used to read e-books. Version numbers are not necessarily the current versions. A complete list of compatible devices can be found on the Adobe Digital Editions Compatibility Chart.

- Motorola Xoom 8.9 inch, running Android 4.0.3
- PCs running Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7 using Adobe Digital Editions
- Macs running OS X 10.4.10 and above using Adobe Digital Editions
Newer versions of the operating systems on the devices listed typically will continue to support reading e-books.
Can I read an e-book on my Kindle?
At this time, e-books available for sale on our site are not compatible with the Kindle. You must purchase the Kindle versions of our books directly from Amazon.
Before downloading an e-book, you must acquire, install, and register the appropriate e-book reader software on the computer or other reading device to which you are downloading the e-book. To find out which e-book reader software is compatible with your computer or reading device, please visit Adobe's e-book Reader Compatibility Chart.

*If you encounter problems using the download button for Adobe Digital Editions, please review this Adobe document, which provides direct links to download the installer and run it separately, outside of your web browser. This appears to be the only way to install the software for Macintosh computers.
Downloading an e-book
Once you have purchased an e-book, the e-mail you receive confirming your order will provide you with a link from which you can download the e-book file.
Before you download e-book files, it is strongly recommended that you have e-book reader software properly installed on your computer or reading device.
How do I open and read my e-book?
All e-books must be opened and read with the e-book reader software for which they were designed. Most e-book readers allow you to store and organize all your e-books on a bookshelf or in a library, from which you can select and open an e-book for viewing.
What is the return policy?
E-books are non-returnable and non-refundable.
What happens if my computer crashes and I lose my digital library?
You may download an individual e-book file up to four (4) times from your order history on our website. If something happens to the e-book file on your computer you simply use one of your allotted downloads.
Can I read my IU Press e-books on more than one device?
You are allowed to transfer/share your IU Press e-books on up to six (6) devices that support Adobe Digital Editions and that have been licensed to you. The Adobe Digital Editions website provides more details on how to access your e-book library from multiple computers/devices.
Can I share my IU Press e-book?
You are not permitted to share, move, copy, reproduce, network or otherwise transfer any IU Press e-books to any computer or other device of any other person.
