For more than thirty years, Prooftexts has provided a forum for the growing field of Jewish literary studies. Integral to its mission is an attempt to bring together the study of modern Jewish literatures (in Hebrew, Yiddish, and European languages) with the literary study of the Jewish classical tradition as a whole. Since its inception, the journal has as much stimulated and created the field of Jewish literary studies as it has reflected its achievements.

Submission Info

Prooftexts follows generally the Chicago Manual of Style (15th edition) but issues its own style sheet outlining exceptions and providing guidelines for the transliteration of Hebrew and Yiddish. For more information, contact the editorial office.

Contributors are asked to submit their manuscript by email as a digital attachment. Manuscripts should be double spaced and should carry notes at the end. Once accepted for publication, authors will be asked to submit a hard copy of their manuscript; copy may be typeset directly from the author's digital attachment.

Prooftexts publishes only original material. Publication of an article or portions thereof in Hebrew is permitted only after the appearance of the English version in Prooftexts, and only with clear acknowledgement to prior publication in Prooftexts and the permission of Indiana University Press. Prooftexts is a peer-reviewed journal, and submissions are reviewed anonymously by the editorial board.
